Pizazoo vs Eagle

Eagle (from OGDESIGN, first released in 2017) is a desktop library for design references and assets, and many designers keep UI screenshots and inspiration in it. Pizazoo is built only for screenshots. The two overlap on the Mac, but they expect different habits: Eagle rewards curating, with tags, folders, ratings and notes on every item you collect, while Pizazoo is meant to run in the background, sorting each new screenshot into a category and indexing its text so you can search for it later. Eagle also runs on Windows; Pizazoo also runs on iPhone and iPad.

TL;DR: Eagle is a visual asset manager for designers on Mac and Windows: you collect images, videos, fonts and web finds, then file them with tags, folders, smart folders, color search and plugins ($34.95 one-time, two devices). Pizazoo is narrower but automatic: it imports screenshots from your capture folders, sorts them into categories, searches their text, and has an iPhone app.

Pick by what your bottleneck is.

Pick Pizazoo when

  • Most of what you keep is screenshots from the macOS tool, CleanShot X, Shottr or Xnapper, and you want them imported and sorted into categories without tagging each one
  • You find screenshots by the words in them: Pizazoo runs OCR on every screenshot on-device, while Eagle’s keyword search covers names, tags, URLs, comments and notes rather than the text inside images
  • You want the same library on iPhone and iPad: the iOS app is free, and Pro iCloud Sync covers Mac, iPhone and iPad; Eagle has no mobile app
  • You want sync without setting up a shared cloud folder: Pizazoo Pro syncs through your private iCloud
  • You need screenshot markup beyond basic annotation: redact, pixelate, spotlight, magnifier, watermark, signature, numbered steps and auto-redaction of personal info and QR codes
  • You want to start free: import, on-device text search, categorization and markup cost nothing, and Pro is $15 one-time

Pick Eagle when

  • You use Windows, or a Windows PC and a Mac: one license activates two devices on either system
  • You collect far more than screenshots: images from websites, videos, GIFs, audio, fonts, design files and web or YouTube bookmarks
  • You gather inspiration in the browser: Eagle’s extension for Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox drags, batch-saves and captures from any page
  • You curate by hand with tags, nested folders, rule-based smart folders, star ratings, notes and comments on images
  • You search by color, shape, dimensions or a reference image as much as by words
  • You want AI on your terms: the AI Search plugin runs fully offline, and AI Action renames, describes, files and tags with the model you choose (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or local models through Ollama or LM Studio)
  • You share a library with a team through Dropbox, Google Drive or a Synology NAS

Common questions

Pizazoo vs Eagle: FAQ

Is Eagle good for organizing screenshots?

Yes, if you treat screenshots as references you file by hand. Eagle can take screenshots itself, import files you save into its Auto-Import folder, and organize them with tags, folders, smart folders and ratings. What it does not do on its own is read the text inside screenshots for search or sort them into categories; for that you need its AI plugins and a model you set up. Pizazoo does both automatically, on the Mac and on iPhone.

Can Eagle search text inside screenshots?

Not out of the box. Eagle’s keyword search looks at names, folders, extensions, tags, URLs, comments and notes, and Eagle says the natural-language search in its AI Search plugin matches that same text information rather than the image content. You can have the AI Action plugin read an image and write its text into the description field, using a model you configure. Pizazoo runs OCR on every screenshot on-device and searches it across the library.

Does Eagle have an iPhone or iPad app?

No. Eagle runs on macOS and Windows, and its FAQ says the team does not have the resources to build mobile versions in the near term. Its August 2026 update on Eagle 5 says the new architecture could eventually support an iPad app, but not as a promised feature. Pizazoo has a free iPhone and iPad app, and Pro iCloud Sync keeps it in step with the Mac.

How does Eagle sync between computers?

Eagle does not run its own sync service. You place the Eagle library folder inside a synced folder such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud or Synology Drive, or carry it on a portable drive. Pizazoo Pro syncs screenshots, tags, custom categories and saved searches through your private iCloud, with no folder to set up.

Which is cheaper, Eagle or Pizazoo?

Eagle is US$34.95 one-time after a 30-day trial, and one license activates two computers on macOS or Windows. Pizazoo is free for import, on-device text search, AI categorization and markup; Pro is $15 one-time for one Mac plus one iPhone or iPad ($25 for 3, $35 for 5). Neither has a subscription.

Can I use Eagle and Pizazoo together?

Yes. They keep separate libraries, so a natural split is Pizazoo for the everyday stream of screenshots from your Mac and iPhone, and Eagle for the design references and assets you collect from the web on purpose.
