Why iPhone screenshots become a mess

The iPhone makes screenshots effortless: side button plus volume up, done. The result is hundreds or thousands of images sitting in the Photos Screenshots album, all visually similar, none searchable by what actually matters: the text and content on the screen.

Photos does offer a Screenshots media type filter, and its search finds text in images (Live Text, iOS 15+). With Apple Intelligence it also understands natural-language queries. But results mix screenshots with your camera photos, and there are no screenshot categories or tags.

What the Photos app can and cannot do

Photos can: show all screenshots in one album, delete in bulk, and find words inside images with Live Text search.

Photos cannot: group screenshots by what they are (receipts, code, chats, errors), let you tag them for a project, or filter screenshots by type, tag, or category. Screenshots are records; Photos treats them like snapshots.

The automatic approach

A dedicated organizer treats screenshots as documents. Pizazoo for iPhone does this fully on-device:

1. It reads the screenshots in your photo library (and only screenshots).

2. On-device AI assigns each one a category: Code, Documents, Receipts, Design, Chats, Errors, Payments, Travel, Shopping, Social, Settings, Media, or Articles.

3. Apple Vision OCR extracts the text inside every capture and indexes it locally.

4. Everything becomes searchable: in the app, in iOS Spotlight, and through Siri.

The backlog import runs in the background. After that, new screenshots are sorted as they arrive while the app is open, and a rich notification lets you correct a category without opening the app.

What about cleanup?

Once screenshots are categorized and searchable, deleting gets easy: you know what you have and you know you can find what you keep. Pizazoo adds a trash with 30-day restore, bulk selection with drag-to-select, and an optional "remove from Photos after import" setting that moves originals to Recently Deleted once they are safely in the library.

Does any of this touch the cloud?
