How to extract text from an image
Convert a screenshot or photo into selectable, copyable text in your browser.
Load the image
Drag in a screenshot or photo, paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V, or click to pick a file. PNG, JPG, and WebP work.
Pick the language
Choose the language of the text in the image — this dramatically improves accuracy.
Run OCR
Click “Extract text”. The engine downloads once (~4 MB) and then reads the image locally with live progress.
Copy or download
Edit the result if needed, then copy it to your clipboard or save it as a .txt file.

Frequently asked questions
Is this OCR really private?
Yes. The Tesseract engine runs as WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your image is never uploaded — only the engine itself is downloaded, once, from a CDN.
How accurate is it?
Very good on crisp screenshots with standard fonts; lower on photos, handwriting, or stylized text. Picking the right language and using high-resolution images helps the most.
Which languages are supported?
English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Hindi, and Arabic are available in the picker.
Can I OCR many screenshots at once?
This tool processes one image at a time. Pizazoo for macOS OCRs every screenshot automatically in the background and makes your entire library text-searchable.
