Use case · Students

Every lecture slide you screenshotted, one search away.

Your camera roll already holds the semester: slides from online lectures, problem sets, reading passages, sources for the next essay. Pizazoo turns that pile into a study library you can search by the words on the screen, on your iPhone and on your Mac.

TL;DR: Students screenshot lecture slides, online classes, readings and essay sources, then lose them in the camera roll. Pizazoo for iPhone and Mac reads the text inside every screenshot on-device, sorts captures into categories, and finds a slide by any word on it. Add the source URL and date in a note so citing it later is easy.

Sound familiar?

  • Lecture slides from online classes buried between memes, receipts and group chats
  • The night before the exam you remember a phrase from a slide, not the week it was shown
  • Research screenshots for an essay with no URL or date, so you cannot cite them properly
  • Screenshots split between the iPhone you use in class and the Mac you write on
  • Thousands of files named "Screenshot" plus a timestamp, none of them named after the course

How Pizazoo fits

  1. Capture as usual. Screenshot slides with Shift-Command-4 on a Mac or the usual buttons on iPhone. Pizazoo does not take screenshots: on Mac it imports new ones from your screenshot folder automatically, and on iPhone it picks up new captures from your photo library when you open the app.
  2. Sorted by content, on-device. On-device AI files each capture into built-in categories such as Documents, Code and Chats, and you can move any screenshot to a different category. With Pro you can create unlimited custom categories, for example one per course.
  3. Search what was on the slide. Type a term, a heading or a phrase you remember. On-device text recognition (OCR) indexes every screenshot, so the slide turns up even though the file is still named by its timestamp. On iPhone, results also appear in Spotlight.
  4. Keep the source with the screenshot. Add a note with the URL, author and date to any research screenshot, on Mac or iPhone. When the essay is due, you cite the original source rather than the screenshot, and the details are already there.
  5. Annotate and translate. Mark up a slide with arrows, text and numbered steps, or with Apple Pencil on iPad. Foreign-language readings can be translated: the Mac preview overlays translated text on the original, and the iPhone markup editor includes translate.
  6. Same library on every device (Pro). iCloud Sync keeps your screenshots, tags, custom categories and saved searches in step across iPhone, iPad and Mac through your own private iCloud. It stays off until you turn it on.

Common questions

FAQ

Can Pizazoo find a lecture slide by a word on it?

Yes. Pizazoo runs on-device text recognition (OCR) on every screenshot, so searching a term, a heading or a phrase from the slide finds it, even if the file is still named by its timestamp. On iPhone, results also appear in Spotlight.

Does it work on both iPhone and Mac?

Yes. Pizazoo for iPhone and iPad is free on the App Store (iOS and iPadOS 17 or later) and organizes the screenshots already in your photo library. Pizazoo for Mac (macOS 14 Sonoma or later) is downloaded from pizazoo.com and imports from your screenshot folder. With Pro, iCloud Sync keeps one library across all of them.

How do I cite a screenshot in an essay?

Cite the source the screenshot shows (the web page, article, video or post), not the screenshot itself, and add the date you captured it when the page has no date or may change. Keeping the URL and date in a Pizazoo note makes this quick. Our guide at /blog/how-to-cite-a-screenshot has APA 7, MLA 9 and Chicago examples.

What does it cost?

The iPhone and iPad app is free, and the Mac app has a free tier that covers automatic import, bulk import of older screenshots, text search and AI categories. Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription: $15 for one Mac (which also includes Pro on one iPhone or iPad), or $14.99 inside the iPhone app.

Do my screenshots stay private?

Yes. Text recognition and categorization run on your device. There is no Pizazoo account, no ads and no Pizazoo server. If you turn on iCloud Sync (Pro), your library syncs through your own private iCloud.
