Where Do Screenshots Go on iPad? How to Find Them
iPad screenshots save to Photos: Collections, Media Types, Screenshots. How to find them, where full-page PDFs go, and how to mark them up.
Screenshots on iPad save to the Photos app. In iPadOS 26 and iPadOS 27, open Photos, tap Collections, scroll down to Media Types, then tap Screenshots. The exception is a full-page screenshot you save as a PDF, which goes to the Files app instead.
Below: every way to take a screenshot on iPad, where each one lands, and how to mark it up.
How do you take a screenshot on iPad?
iPad without a Home button
Quickly press and release the top button and either volume button at the same time (Apple, iPadOS 27). Use this on any iPad that has no Home button below the screen.
iPad with a Home button
Quickly press and release the top button and the Home button at the same time (Apple, iPadOS 26). iPad (9th generation) has a Home button and is still on Apple's iPadOS 27 compatibility list.
With Apple Pencil
Swipe up diagonally with Apple Pencil from a bottom corner of the screen (Apple). Apple's iPadOS 27 guide pairs the bottom-left corner with a screenshot and the bottom-right corner with a Quick Note (Apple).
To change what each corner does, go to Settings, tap Apps, tap Notes, tap Corner Gestures, then tap Left Corner Swipe or Right Corner Swipe and choose an action. The same screen has Allow Finger to Swipe from Corner, if you want the gesture without a Pencil (Apple).
A Pencil screenshot opens ready to draw on: mark it up, use the tool palette to switch tools, then tap Done and choose an option.
With AssistiveTouch (no buttons)
Go to Settings, then Accessibility, Touch, AssistiveTouch, and turn it on. A menu button appears on screen, and Apple lists taking a screenshot among its actions. You can put Screenshot in the top-level menu with Customize Top Level Menu, or assign it to a single tap, double tap or long press of the menu button (Apple). If you use a pointer, Dwell Control's Hot Corners can take a screenshot too.
With Siri
Apple also lists Siri as a way to take a screenshot without the buttons (Apple).
| Method | How | Works in |
|---|---|---|
| Top button + volume | Press and release both together | iPadOS 26 and 27 |
| Top button + Home | Press and release both together | Home button iPads |
| Apple Pencil | Swipe up from a bottom corner | iPadOS 26 and 27 |
| AssistiveTouch | Menu button, then Screenshot | iPadOS 26 and 27 |
| Siri | Ask Siri | iPadOS 26 and 27 |
Where do screenshots go on iPad?
Into your photo library:
- Open Photos, tap Collections, scroll down to Media Types, then tap Screenshots (Apple).
- In the Library, the Media Types filter can show only screenshots, and View Options can hide them from the main grid. If screenshots seem to have vanished from your Library, tap View Options and tap Screenshots again (Apple).
- To reach them faster, add Screenshots to the Pinned collection (Apple).
With iCloud Photos on (Settings, your name, iCloud, Photos, Sync this iPad), iPad screenshots upload at full resolution and appear on your iPhone and Mac too, as long as they also use iCloud Photos with the same Apple Account. To confirm they are syncing, tap Collections in Photos and check the status icon in the top-right corner (Apple).
What happens right after you take one?
In iPadOS 26 and 27, the screenshot appears full screen by default. From there you can crop, annotate with Markup, share, save, or delete it (Apple, iPadOS 26). In iPadOS 27, tap the save button to keep it.
Prefer a small thumbnail in the lower-left corner that saves on its own? Go to Settings, tap General, tap Screen Capture, then turn off Full-Screen Previews (Apple).
Where do full-page screenshots go on iPad?
For content longer than the screen, such as a webpage in Safari, tap Full Page in the screenshot editor and drag your finger or Apple Pencil on the preview to scroll it (Apple). Apple's iPadOS 26 guide lists two ways to save it:
- Save to Photos saves it as an image in your library.
- Save PDF to Files saves a PDF to the location you choose (Apple, iPadOS 26).
To find a saved PDF, open Files, tap the search button and type the file name or "PDF", or tap Recents (Apple).
How do you mark up an iPad screenshot?
Tap the Markup button in the screenshot editor (or open the screenshot in Photos and choose Markup). The toolbar has pen, marker and pencil tools for drawing, a ruler for straight lines, and a lasso to move what you drew (Apple). You can also add text boxes, shapes, stickers and image descriptions. Draw a shape in one stroke and pause, and a clean version snaps into place (Apple).
Apple Pencil works on supported models; check which Pencil fits your iPad.
How do you keep iPad screenshots organized?
Photos keeps every screenshot in one long Media Types list. If you capture a lot on iPad, an organizer can sort them for you. Pizazoo for iPad (we make Pizazoo) is the same universal app as the iPhone version and adds an iPad layout:
- A sidebar layout for the bigger screen.
- Drag screenshots into other apps, and drop images in.
- Apple Pencil markup, where double-tapping the Pencil switches between your two most recent tools.
- On-device AI categories and OCR text search, with results in iOS Spotlight.
It is free on iPadOS 17 or later. An optional one-time Pro purchase adds color tags, saved searches, unlimited custom categories and iCloud Sync with your iPhone and Mac. See Pizazoo for iPad or Pizazoo for iPhone.
